Paul McCartney and Marijuana

Paul and Linda McCartney and their daughter, Mary. That’s a joint in Paul’s right hand.

Macca says he doesn't puff anymore and the stoner world immediately goes into a tizzy.

Now on his third marriage, Paul McCartney is known to follow the lead of his partner when it comes to pot.

The real love of his life, Linda Eastman, was a big cannabis consumer. In fact, she took the rap for Paul when he was arrested for weed in Los Angeles in 1975. Two years earlier, police found plants growing on their farm in Scotland. Sadly, she died of breast cancer in 1998.

Paul's second wife, Heather Mills, didn't approve of his marijuana use, so Paul stopped smoking for a while. That marriage lasted just four years.

In 2011, McCartney married New York businesswoman, Nancy Shevell. Up until now, he hadn't commented on whether he still hits the pot pipe. But in a new interview with The Mirror in London, Sir Paul says it's all in the past:

'The last time I smoked was a long time ago. Instead of smoking a spliff, I’ll now have a glass of red wine or a nice margarita.'

Why the change of heart? "I don’t really want to set an example to my kids and grandkids," Macca muses. "It’s now a parent thing. Back then I was just some guy around London having a ball, and the kids were little so I’d just try and keep it out of their faces."

McCartney had four children with Linda and one with Mills. He has eight grandchildren.

But surely the Cute Beatle continues to back marijuana decriminalization, as he has for many years, noting that if you can have a drink of Scotch, you should be able to have a smoke of weed.

Yes, Paul McCartney sang about marijuana: "I've got to get you into my life." Now it's more like: "It's a long and winding road."
