G-Funk meets reggae on Snoop Lion's latest single from his Reincarnated album, "Lighters Up." Joining Snoop are Mavado and Popcaan, a virtual Jamaican Dogg Pound. "Get high with me, fly with me, ain't no dividing us," they sing. "East side, West side, North side, South side, unified, come on and ride with us."
Last year Snoop Dogg transformed into Snoop Lion, his Rasta alter ego. The conversion resulted in Snoop going to Jamaica and making both the album, out Apr. 16, and a movie of the same name, which opens in theaters on Mar. 15.
In this video, set in Jamaica, fire and smoke are omnipresent, whether it's blunts and spliffs burning, torches lit or a huge bonfire on the beach.
Each singer has his own section. Snoop's features a marching band dressed in orange playing as waves splash. It's incongruous but works. While Mavado is a gruff dancehall shouter, Popcaan has a more laid-back root approach. They represent both ends of the reggae spectrum, with Snoop Lion neatly poised right in the middle.
