Caught smoking out of an apple pipe nearly 17 years ago, actress Charlize Theron now says she uses pot to counter "really bad insomnia."
Promoting her upcoming stoner movie, Gringo, Theron told E!News on Feb. 27 that she stopped using marijuana a few years ago, but is "open to trying it again because now there are all these different strains and you can be specific with it.
"I'm actually really interested because I have really bad insomnia, and I'd much rather get off sleeping pills and figure out a stain that helps me sleep better."
Theron explained that...
"I was a waker-and-baker for most of my life... I really appreciated marijuana way more than anything else. My chemistry was really good with it when I was younger. In my early thirties, I just became boring on it, and would just stand in front of the fridge, so that's no good. So I stopped."
Two days before the movie's release, on Mar. 7, Theron told Jimmy Kimmel that her mother had recently scored some weed from a legal store. "It works," Theron gushed. "It's amazing."
She went into more detail about her "good, solid eight years on the marijuana" and why she stopped: "My chemistry just changed. One day I found myself frozen in front of the fridge for eight hours. I couldn't speak. It wasn't for me anymore."

Instead, she turned to sleeping pills to get through the night. Her mother Gerta has the same problem. Finally, Theron decided it was time to "find a sleeping strain." Without telling Charlize, Gerta went shopping at an unnamed adult-use store where she purchased either edibles or flower (it's unclear from the interview).
Kimmel then joked: "You're mom will fix your timing belt snd score you weed."
The 42-year-old South American-born actress has won an Oscar (Best Actress for Monster in 2004) and become an action hero in films like Mad Max: Fury Road and The Fate of the Furious.
