House newcomer Katie Hill didn't last long in Washington. Elected in 2018 in California's 25th congressional district, the Democrat, like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, was on the rise.
But then came the photos and stories released October 24 by the Daily Mail and RedState about Hill having affairs with several staffers, one of which she admitted to, leading to her abrupt resignation three days later.
Hill claims she's the victim of a "smear campaign" and an "appalling invasion of my privacy" on the part of her husband of 15 years, Kenneth Haslep. The couple are currently involved in a divorce.
The racy photos and text messages show Hill and campaign staffer Morgan Desjardins together and communicating with each other after Hill broke off the affair. In one of the photos, a nude Hill is sitting behind Desjardins, brushing her hair. In another nude photo. Hill is holding a glass bong. Hill is 32; Desjardins is 24.
It is with a broken heart that today I announce my resignation from Congress. This is the hardest thing I have ever had to do, but I believe it is the best thing for my constituents, my community, and our country.

"For the mistakes I made along the way and the people who have been hurt, I am so sorry, and I am learning," she tweeted. "I am not a perfect person and never pretended to be."

A homeless advocate, Hill defeated incumbant Stephen Knight by a 54%-46% margin in 2018. She quickly was promoted to House leadership as a freshman and became vice chair of the House Oversight Committee.
