The Material Girl is actually a cannabis consumer. Madonna, vacationing in Jamaica, posted a photo of her holding a plate of buds and papers with a joint hanging from her mouth at Instagram on August 16 with the statement: "Welcome to Jamaica............"

Madonna has never been noted for marijuana use or advocacy. However, about her Late Show with David Letterman appearance in 1994 where she said "fuck" numerous times, Madonna explained to Letterman in 2009:
“It wasn’t because I was excited about you. I think it may have had something to do with the joint I smoked before I came on.”
In 2014, Madonna's then 17-year-old daughter Lourdes Leon was photographed smoking a joint in Cannes, France.
There is a Madonna strain of cannabis bred by Sannies Seeds. A cross between The One and Blue Kronic, it's an indica-dominant hybid that smells and tastes like grapes and berries. It's recommended for evening and nighttime use.
Madonna also smokes a joint in the 1985 film Desperately Seeking Susan.
From 1981-2012, Madonna had 37 songs in the Top 10, including 12 No. 1 hits. Her last album Madame X came out in 2019.
