Berner's Cookies Cannabis Brand Expands to Michigan

Cookies co-founder Berner and his latest store in Kalamazoo, Michigan

Cookies is quickly becoming one of the biggest brands in cannabis. Founded by rapper Berner and his cultivation partner Jigga, the company has recently extended its retail footprint to Michigan with stores in Detroit and Kalamazoo.

In January, Berner (nee Gilbert Milam Jr.) spoke about the Cookies store in Detroit which opened in partnership with equity licensee Gage Cannabis Co.:

"To me, Michigan is one of the biggest markets next to California. Not only is it a big market, Michigan is a very educated market when it comes to herb and hash. They've been seeing California weed on the black market for years and been producers of high quality flower in their own respective market. With that being said, Michigan smokers are spoiled just like us in Cali. With all the new genetics in our library and all the love from the Michigan Cups, we're ready to give Detroit all the new-new."

Born in San Francisco, Berner rose to fame as a protégé of Cypress Hill frontman B-Real. They recorded a series of mixtapes and then Los Meros in 2020

Both Berner and B-Real have staked out their claims in the cannabis industry, creating the retail brands Cookies and Dr. Greenthumb. With 23 stores in California, Colorado, Michigan, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oregon, Washington and Israel, Cookies has eclipsed Dr. Greenthumb, which has six, all in California.

Cookies is also known for its strains, including Lemonnade, Runtz and the popular house brand.
