Nearly seven years after then Pres. Donald Trump tweeted about Snoop Dogg's "failing career," the rapper now says in a new interview, "I have nothing but love for Donald Trump."
Snoop added:
"Donald Trump? He ain't done nothing wrong to me. He has done only great things for me. He pardoned Michael Harris."
Who Is Michael Harris?
Michael "Harry-O" Harris co-founded Death Row Records with Suge Knight in 1991. It's the West Coast hip-hop label that introduced Dr. Dre and Snoop to the world. Harris was convicted of drug trafficking and attempted murder in Los Angeles in 1990 and spent 30 years in jail until Trump commuted his sentence in 2020. Harris claims he did not commit the murder.
When Trump was leaving the White House, he commuted 70 sentences, including Harris', hence Snoop Dogg's about-face on Trump who he called a clown that led to Trump's "failed career" retort.
The "Lavender" Video
The video for Snoop's 2017 song, "Lavender," depicts Trump as a clown. After another clown is killed by a cop, Snoop encounters "Ronald Klump" and while hitting a blunt, he aims a fake gun at him, fires and the word BANG emerges from the gun, like in a cartoon. Later in the scene, Snoop passes a blunt to another clown, who also threatens Klump.
Impact of Snoop Dogg's Statement
Just because Trump freed one of his cronies doesn't mean Snoop should have suddenly hailed Trump during the 2024 Presidential campaign. Young Black voters may take this to mean they should consider voting for Trump rather than Pres. Biden in November. It's irresponsible and another misstep by the popular rapper who recently received flack for the Solo Stove ad campaign that led to the firing of Solo Brands' CEO.
