Seth Rogen's Latest Series 'The Studio' + Plus Why He Considers Weed 'Therapeutic'

via Apple TV+

It's a big week for Seth Rogen. His 10-episode Apple TV+ series The Studio premieres on Wednesday. It's the latest effort from Rogen and his creative partner Evan Goldberg who produced films like Pineapple Express.

The comic actor and CelebStoner plays studio boss Matt Remick, the new head of struggling movie company Continental Studios. The cast includes Bryan Cranston, Catherine O'Hara, Ike Barinholtz, Kathryn Hahn, Chase Sui Wonders and David Krumholtz. Others – including Charlize Theron, Jean Smart, Martin Scorsese, Ron Howard, Zac Efron, Anthony Mackie, Adam Scott, Olivia Wilde, Steve Buscemi, Zoe Kravitz, Paul Dano, Dave Franco and Rebecca Hall – play themselves.

"We thought a show about saving film where the only way you can tell that story is on television was funny," Rogen says about the show's concept.

While he continues to appear in movies like Dumb Money (2023) and The Fabelmans (2022), Rogen has steered over the last few years more towards TV and streaming projects such as The Boys (as executrive producer at Prime) and Platonic (as an actor also at Apple TV+).

Rogen on Weed

"To me it's a very therapeutic part of my day-to-day journey."

In its feature on Rogen, The Guardian's Ellen E. Jones brings up his prodigious cannabis use and Houseplant company. She wonders:

"What I don't understand is how being even mildly high the whole time doesn't effect his productivity."

Rogen explains:

"For sure I process it differently than other people. I've been at parties with people and we'll share a joint, and I'll be fine and go about my day, and they'll enter, like, a new dark peroid for three months. Years will go by and then I'll run into them at a party and they'll be, like, 'The last time I saw you was the last time I smoked weed, and it was terrible.'

"I'm not physically gifted in many ways, but there's one way in which I am, which is my ability to process weed. And to me it's a very therapeutic part of my day-to-day journey, which I don't even question or think about anymore, honestly"

Jones: "You should leave youir body to science."

Rogen: "Oh, I will."
