Police in Pahrump, Nevada have charged Heidi Fleiss with cultivating 392 marijuana plants on her property. The former Hollywood madam claims she was growing for a Las Vegas medical cannabis collective.
TMZ reports that police arrived at her home on Aug. 7 "looking for another woman and stumbled on a gigantic weed farm."
Fleiss apparently "doesn't have a license to grow." Medical marijuana has been legal in Nevada since 2000. In June, the law was amended to allow for dispensaries. Patients or caregivers can grow up to seven plants.
Police say Fleiss "gave us consent to search without a warrant and was very cooperative throughout the investigation." She was hit with two counts: opening or maintaining a place for unlawful sale, gift or use of a controlled substance; and possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell.
Pahrump is 60 miles due west of Las Vegas near the California border.
Fleiss was arrested on prostitution charges in 1994 and subsequently convicted of tax evasion. She served 20 months in federal prison.
