NBA guard Iman Shumpert was arrested and charged with felony possession of marijuana at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport on July 30. TSA confiscated a plastic bag containing six ounces of "green leafy substance" stashed in his luggage. Shumpert was boarding a flight to Los Angeles at 2:40 pm.
Texas is not a legal marijuana state. According to NORML, possession of four ounces to five pounds is a felony punishable by 180 days (mandatory) to two years in jail and maximum $10,000 fine.
He was previously hit was a cannabis DUI in Georgia in 2016.
Shumpert last played for the Nets earlier this year. He started his NBA career with the Knicks, who selected him out of Georgia Tech in the first round of the 2011 draft. Traded to the Cavs in 2015, the defensive specialist won the NBA championship with LeBron James and Kyrie Irving in 2016. He's averaged 7.2 ppg over 12 seasons.
