Actress Rachel Sennott dished on her recent cannabis bust in Cayman Islands on The Tonight Show on Oct. 9:
"I was arrested for CBD in the Cayman Islands, which is embarrassing. It’s actually sad. You want to be arrested for something cool. You want to be arrested for like protesting, shoplifting, something awesome. To be arrested for CBD is like, ‘This is a little pathetic.’”
Islands authorities found a prerolled joint in her carry-on. Sennott says she didn't realize it was there. It was actually a Mom Grass hemp CBG joint, produced by Dad Grass which she bought at Erewhon.
Next thing the Saturday Night and Bottoms star knew she was in jail. “Honestly, super chill vibes,” she said about the lock-up during which local police discovered her role in Bottoms. "They’re like, ‘This isn’t for us.' Obviously, it’s not for you. You’re a border patrol officer, this is for teenage lesbians.”
Sennott's assistant found her and then a local lawyer stepped in to help, but not before she had a mug shot taken. "I asked for it, they wouldn’t send it,” Sennott noted. “Just imagine I look incredible.”
It's unclear when the arrest took place. Sennott traveled to the islands solo where she was meeting a friend. Police allowed her one call, but it could only be domestic. "They arrest me, they take my phone and my passport,” she added. “I unfortunately have yet to make friends in the Cayman Islands.”
The authorities released Stennott, 29, with an "adult caution," which is like a warning. The law reads:
A suspect may be cautioned for an offence if - (a) there is sufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction for the offence; (b) the suspect has unequivocally admitted that the suspect is guilty of the offence and agrees to be cautioned for it; (c) the offence attracts a maximum custodial sentence of less than four years or is an offence specified in the Schedule; and (d) in the opinion of - (i) a police officer of the rank of Inspector or above; or (ii) in the opinion of the Director of Public Prosecutions, where a charge has already been brought for the offence, the circumstances of the suspect or the offence are such that the matter is suitable for a caution and the suspect is not ineligible for a caution under section 5.
In 2023, when model Gigi Hadid was charged with possession on Grand Cayman, she received a $1,000 fine.
