Pro-Pot Heather Mizeur Loses Bid for Maryland Governor

(L to R): State Delegate Heather Mizeur, Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown and Attorney General Doug Gansler. Brown won the primary.

Update: With three solid choices for governor on the Democratic ballot, Maryland voters selected current Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown over current Attorney General Doug Gansler and State delegate Heather Mizeur, who is openly gay, in the June 24 primary. All three supported reforming the state's marijuana laws in some shape and form.

Brown, who received 51% of the vote, favors decriminalization, while Mizeur, who earned 21%, is for full legalization. Brown'sĀ seeking to replace Gov. Martin O'Malley, who signed decrim and medical marijuana bills earlier this year.

OnĀ Mizeur's website, she states: "Marijuana's time as a controlled, illegal substance has run its course. Marijuana laws ruin lives, are enforced with racial bias, and distract law enforcement from serious and violent crimes. Exposing this underground industry to the light of day by legalizing, regulating and taxing marijuana will save money and prevent people from becoming unnecessarily entangled in the criminal justice system."
