One of Colorado's leading marijuana-candy makers, Dr. J's Hash Infusion, is being accused of selling inferior products. Testing shows their chocolate bars contain less than one milligram of THC.
The packaging of Dr. J's Star Barz claims each one contains 100 mg of active THC. Not so, says Steep Hill Halent, one of the state's marijuana testing labs who was hired by the Denver Post to test numerous edible products after a slew of complaints about Dr. J's products (chocolates, hard candies, caramels), which are available at pot shops around the state. Two of Dr. J's chocolate bars tested at 0.37 and 0.28 mg of THC.
"You're talking less than a milligram of THC in a product that says 100," states Joseph Evan, Steep Hill Halent's lab director. "They need to work on their process."
Dr. J's makes cold-water hash using bubble-bag technology. "Because our hash is cold-water extracted, it's particalized," explains Dr. J's founder and CEO Tom Sterlacci. "It's not an oil like butane or CO2. So if you have the medicine sitting, the particles could fall to the bottom. So somebody could get a high-potency product and somebody could get a low-potency product."
To be fair, most of the edibles tested came in with low THC numbers, with one exception: Incredibles' Mile High mint chocolate bar, which advertises 100 mg of THC, registered at 146!
