A favorite road stop for stoners - Weed in Northern California - has been hit by a number of wildfires over the last few years. In 2019, the Boles Fire destroyed 150 homes and buildings in the town of just 3,000 residents.

Update: A new blaze, named the Mill Fire, has engulfed Weed again. It spread to 4,000 acres, as of September 2.

The town near Mount Shasta and the Oregon border on Interstate 5 in Siskiyou County is named after Abner Weed, who founded the area's first lumber mill in 1897.
