2. Recreational Marijuana Stores Open for Business in Colorado and Washington
It was boffo business in Colorado, which got the jump on legal adult-use sales in January. The year will likely end with $80 million in tax dollars raised on both rec and medical pot in the Centennial State. Washington's entrance into the legal market proved to be much rockier, with only a handful of stores opening in July and many closing shortly thereafter due to supply shortages (not enough weed). But they'll get it together in 2015. In Colorado, the biggest issues were edible product dosages and diversion of marijuana to nearby states, two of which are trying to get the Supreme Court to overturn the legalization law there. It's doubtful that would ever happen.
