4. Thirteen States Pass Some Form of Medical Marijuana Legislation
While New York, Minnesota and Maryland passed medical bills, upping the number of states with extensive laws covering patients to 23, 10 more signed on for CBD-only laws, mostly as a result of media coverage of epileptic children who have fewer or no seizures at all when using some form of low-THC marijuana. The states are primarily red: Alabama, Florida, Iowa, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah and Wisconsin. In an amendment to the omnibus appropriations bill, Congress took away funding for Department of Justice medical marijuana activities (meaning no more federal raids of dispensaries and prosecuting patients). Thank the cannabis caucus for that. One bit of bad news: Amendment 2 failed in Florida with 58% of the vote (it needed 60% to win).
