Marijuana measures passed in eight states on Election Day, led by adult-use legalization victories in California, Maine, Massachusetts and Nevada.
Only Prop 205 in Arizona lost. Meanwhile, four states - Arkansas, Florida, Montana and North Dakotapassed medical marijuana initiatives.
Here are the numbers:
Arizona, Prop 205: 48%-52%
California, Prop 64: 56%-44%
Maine, Question 1: 50%-50% (wins by less than 3,000 votes)
Massachusetts, Question 4: 53.5%-46.5%
Nevada, Question 2: 54%-46%
Arkansas, Issue 6: 53%-47%
Florida, Amendment 2: 71%-29%.
Montana, Initiative 182: 57%-43%
North Dakota, Measure 5: 64%-36%
There are now eight states that have legalized recreational or adult use possession and sale of marijuana. Colorado and Washington passed initiatives in 2012, and Oregon and Alaska followed in 2014. An effort in Ohio lost in 2015.
There are now 29 states with broad medical marijuana laws.
In Colorado, two important votes determined that limited social use will be allowed in Denver (Ordinance 300, 51%-49%) and rec shops can stay open in Pueblo (Question 200, 56%-44%).
