The 2022 Midterms produced mixed results for marijuana law reform. Adult-use legalization measures passed in Maryland and Missouri, but lost in Arkansas, North Dakota and South Dakota. There are now 21 adult-use legal states.
In Maryland, Question 4 passed with 65% of the vote.
In Missouri, Amendment 3 passed with 53% of the vote.
In Arkansas, Issue 4 lost with 44% of the vote.
In North Dakota, Measure 2 lost with 45% of the vote.
In South Dakota, Measure 27 lost with 46% of the vote.
Also on the ballot in Colorado, Prop 122 to regulate plants medicines (i.e. psychedelics) passed with 51% of the vote.
Pro-cannabis U.S. Senate candidate John Fetterman held off Republican challenger Dr. Mehmet Oz with 50% of the vote in Pennsylvania.
In Louisiana, Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Gary Chambers Jr., who smoked a blunt in a campaign ad, lost with 17% of the vote to Republican incumbent John Kennedy.
Fetterman said in his acceptance speech: "I'm so humbled. I'll be the next U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania."
