Published in 1984, T. Coraghessan Boyle's Budding Prospects is one of the best, if not the best, marijuana novels ever written. Now, it's competing to become a series on Amazon.
Directed by Terry Zwigoff (Ghost World, Crumb), Budding Prospects stars a trio of comic actors (Adam Ross, Joel David Moore and Will Sasso), whose characters are hired to run a pot farm in Northern California. In the pilot, we meet Felix, Phil and Gesh, three San Francisco stoners in need of work and in dead-end relationships. Money man Vogelsein (Brett Gelman) makes them the offer they decide not to refuse.
Fans of the novel know that hijinx will ensue once they reach their destination: nosy cops, a bear and a fire are among the issues they'll eventually have to deal with.
