Eight Stony Shows Receive 2023 Emmy Nominations

It’s the 75th Emmys and Jeff Bridges is up for an award.

At CelebStoner, we zero in on drug use and stony portrayals when watching TV shows and movies. The 2023 Emmy Awards nominations were announced on July 12 in Hollywood. The 75th awards show will take place on September 18 in Los Angeles.

Here are our fave nominees:

Jeff Bridges

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series

Bridges plays retired CIA agent Dan Chase in The Old Man, a seven-part series on Hulu. It also received a cinematography nom.

Riley Keough puffs in "Daisy Jones & the Six."

Daisy Jones & the Six

Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Anthology Series or Movie

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Anthology Series or Movie

Two women (Riley Keough and Camilla Morrone) in this Prime Video series about the rise and fall of a fictional '70s rock band were nominated but lead actor Sam Claflin wasn't. The 10-episode series received a total of nine noms.

Antonia Gentry and Brianne Howey in "Ginny & Georgia"

Ginny & Georgia

Outstanding Original Music and Lyics

The second season of this unorthodox 10-part mother-daughter series on Netflix starring Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry earned only one nom for the song "Marriage Is a Dungeon."

History of the World Part II

This eight-part sequel to the 1981 Mel Brooks movie on Hulu didn't get much attention and earned just two technical noms. Look for the pot scene in Ep. 1.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

LOTR finally made it to television with this eight-part prequel on Prime Video. But it only received six tech noms. Who could resist the power and beauty of Galadriel (Morfydd Clark)?

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Outstanding Comedy Series

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series

Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series

The fifth and final season of this Prime Video comedy starring Rachel Brosnahan (Midge) as an up-and-coming standup set in the late '50s and early '60s is going out with a bang with 14 noms. Alex Bortstein (Midge's manager Susie) and Luke Kirby (Lenny Bruce) also earned noms.

Christa Miller and Harrison Ford in "Shrinking"

Shrinking

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series

Psychiatrists can be funny too, as proven in Apple TV+'s 10-parter starring Jason Segal and Jessica Williams (both were nominated) and Harrison Ford (for some odd reason, he wasn't). Check out Ford as Paul high on gummies in Ep. 6.

The White Lotus

Outstanding Drama Series

Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series

This hugely popular seven-part HBO series created by Mike White hit the jackpot in its second season with 24 noms (only Showtime's Succession had more with 28). Eight members of the cast - including Aubrey Plaza and Jennifer Coolidge - were nominated.
