Phoenix Suns forward Michael Beasley was arrested for marijuana and paraphernalia possession during a traffic stop in Scottsdale on Aug. 6.
Police pulled his vehicle over at 1:15 am at Scottsdale and McCormick Roads. They smelled marijuana. Three joints or blunts were located in the car. Beasley was apprehended and then released.
Both charges are felonies. In Arizona, possession of less than two pounds of pot is punishable by a minimum of four months in jail and maximum $750 fine.
Update: On Sept. 3, the Suns released Beasley. On Sept. 11, the Heat signed him to a non-guaranteed contract.
This was Beasley's second marijuana arrest. The first took place in 2011 when he played for Minnesota. The 6-10 forward was the second player drafted overall in 2008 when Miami picked him out of Kansas State. During his two years with the Heat, Beasley failed several drug tests and went to treatment in 2009.
After signing a three-year, $18 million deal with the Suns in 2012, he said, "I'm confident to say that that part of my life is over and won't be coming back."
Beasley averaged 10 ppg for Phoenix last season. During his NBA career, he's averaged 14 points and five rebounds per game.
