Super Buds for the Stoner Bowl

Good Meds’ Peyton Manning marijuana strain was renamed Sheriff after reps for the Broncos’ quarterback protested.

Several marijuana strains named after Super Bowl players are popping up in Denver and Seattle dispensaries. One, named after Seattle running back Marshawn Lynch's nickname, is called Beast Mode.

"Marshawn has gears when he’s running and it’s kind of like that," says Nate Johnson, owner of Seattle's Queen Anne Cannabis Club. "It has a little bit of a slow start and then kicks in.”

Beast Mode is an indica OG Kush variety with 17.6% THC. It sells for $13 a gram and $300 an ounce.

In Denver, a strain named after the Broncos' quarterback Peyton Manning, available at Good Meds, is a sativa cross between Chemdog and OG Kush. Due to pressure from Manning's lawyer, it was renamed Sheriff.

"Regardless of the name," says the shop's manager Fred Huerta, "it's still popular."

Manning and Lynch are both All-Pros and arguably the best players on their teams.
