Padre Busted Near San Diego for DUID

Light hitting San Diego shortstop was allegdly riding in a smoked-out vehicle when police stopped him this morning.

Padres shortstop Everth Cabrera was busted early this morning south of San Diego when Border Patrol alerted Highway Patrol to pull over his vehicle. It's unclear what actually happened, but in all likelihood they smelled marijuana during the stop and arrested the player for DUID.

TMZ's reporting on this is very sketchy. "We're told agents suspected something was wrong," the gossip site writes, and then CHI pulled him over. He had blood drawn at a police station, was booked and then released.

This took place shortly after midnight on I-94, which skirts the U.S-Mexico border.

Last year Cabrera sat out 50 games when he was named in the Biogenesis PED scandal that rocked baseball.

The Nicaraguan infielder has a .248 career average in six seasons with the Padres.

In July, Cabrera's teammate Cameron Maybin was suspended for 25 games for amphetamine use.
