Most stoners may have rooted for reigning NFL champs Seattle to beat the ball deflators New England in Super Bowl XLIX on Feb. 1, but it was the Pats who emerged victorious over the Seahawk, 28-24.
Seattle throttled Denver, 43-8, in Super Bowl XLVIII (a.k.a. the Stoner Bowl). The strain, Beastmode 2.0, named for Seahawks' RB Marshawn Lynch, was available at legal marijuana stores in Washington in the lead-up to the big game.
There were a few compelling reasons to back the Pats:
1. Their top running back LeGarrette Blount was arrested for marijiuana possession in August while he was still with the Steelers. Pittsburgh cut Blount and he resigned with New England, where he played in 2013. In December, the charge was dropped in exchange for 50 hours of community service. In the AFC Championship Game vs. the Colts, Blount rushed for 148 years and three TDs.
2. Cornerback Brandon Browner was with the Seahawks last year, but sat out the Stoner Bowl due to a drug suspension. Seattle dropped him and he signed with New England. This year he won't miss the Bowl. Along with Darrell Revis, the Patriots cornerback tandem is the best in the NFL.
In the game, New England thwarted a last-minute Seattle rally with an interception, giving them four Super Bowl wins in the last 14 season and their first since 2005.
In their T-Mobile commercial, Sarah Silverman and Chelsea Handler compared locations where they can get phone reception. "I'm in my hydroponic kale garden," Silverman said with tongue in cheek.
