Arrested on May 12 in Richmond, Kentucky, eight-year NBA veteran Montrezl Harrell was charged with "trafficking less than five pounds of marijuana." When troopers pulled him over for tailgating, they caught a whiff of pot and searched the vehicle on I-75, producing "three pounds of marijuana in vacuum sealed bags.” It's a Class D felony, "punishable by one to five years of incarceration with a fine ranging from $1,000 to $10,000."
Update: On August 31, the felony charge was reduced to a misdemeanor, which Harreell pleaded guilty to.
The 6-foot-7 forward out of the University of Kentucky was selected in the second round of the 2015 NBA draft by the Rockets. Harrell's best years were with the Clippers from 2017-2020 where he averaged 18.6 ppg in 2020 and was named the league's Sixth Man of the Year. On February 10, the Hornets acquired Harrell. He averaged 11.4 ppg in 25 games with Charlotte.
