A lighthearted stoner comedy, Rawson Marshall Furber's We're the Millers is about a smuggling run to Mexico that goes awry. Jason Sudeikis stars as the pot dealer who's carrying "enough weed to kill Willie Nelson."
David Clark (Sudeikis) sells marijuana in Denver. When he's mugged at knifepoint, David finds himself in debt to his dealer Brad (Ed Helms), who sends him on the smuggling mission. But first Brad assembles a faux family to help him cross the border: a stripper (Jennifer Aniston), a runaway (Emma Roberts) and a dork (Will Poulter). They set out in an RV like the families in the Vacation movies; this comparison is particularly apt since Sudeikis, like Vacation lead Chevy Chase, is a Saturday NIght Live alum (he recently left the show). Sudeikis is no Chevy Chase, though he does manage to carry the movie.
Aniston, meanwhile, continues to push the envelope with another raunchy role (see Horrible Bosses). In several scenes, she works the pole in revealing lingerie. But her "good girl" character ultimately emerges as the family treks all over the Southwest.
Stereotypical Mexican gang bangers follow them into the U.S., hoping to recover the excess marijuana on board.
But mostly this is a story about how four misfits bond during their misadventures on the road, which includes meeting a wacky couple played by Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) and Kathryn Hahn (Wanderlust, My Idiot Brother).
Though there must be 100 kilos of pot stashed on board, no one gets high on the supply. A stoner movie without even a joint or bong being lit? Bummer.
Update: We're the Millers proved to be a huge success at the box office, raking in $150 million.
