4. Crystal Fairy & the Magical Cactus
Gaby Hoffman has received a Best Actress Spirit Award nomination for her title role as the female lead in this road movie ($192,500) set in Chile. Crystal meets Jamie (Michael Cera) at a party in Santiago and she eventually rendervous with him and his friends (three Chilean brothers - the sons of director Sebastian Silva) en route to the beach in search of San Pedro cactus. They swipe one from someone's garden and slice it up and cook it, then drink it for its hallucinogenic effects. There's no great epiphany, other than Jamie finally gets to like the brash Crystal.
