Paul Thomas Anderson's adaptation of Thomas Pynchon's novel Inherent Vice is a wild ride, similar to previous questionable efforts to bring Tom Robbins' work to cinema. Joaquin Phoenix as weed-smoking private eye Doc Sportella's trying to find an old girlfriend who's disappeared. Channelling his inner Lebowski, Phoenix lights joint after joint as he attempts to solve the mystery.
