Known best for the three Hangover movies, Todd Phillips has long been one Hollywood's top stoner-movie directors, dating back to Road Trip (2000) and Old School (2003). In War Dogs, he pairs Jonah Hill (Efraim) with Miles Teller (Dave). They're old friends who reunite in their 20s to run guns in Iraq and Afghanistan. The mild-mannered Dave is married with a kid on the way; the boisterous, loud-mouthed baller Efraim just wants to get rich selling arms. Both like to smoke pot and do coke. Their daring mission from Jordan to Baghdad with a truck full of ammunition is harrowing. Ultimately, a rift develops between the best buds, but it's nothing they can't overcome. Hill has been nominated for Golden Globe in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Movie category.
