23. Prescription Thugs
Chris Bell's documentary is personal. His wrestler brother died of a prescription drug overdose inn 2008 and he too was addicted to pain pills after a hip surgery. Bell indicts Big Pharma for being greedy and hooking millions of Americans on synthetic drugs. While he acknowledges that some drugs are beneficial, many others leave people in a cycle of addiction they often can't get out of. One interviewee discusses how her daughter committed suicide. For Bell, it took several visits to rehab before he kicked the habit. But he contends that it's the "thugs" and not the drugs that are responsible for our current epidemic.
