4. Dying to Know: Ram Dass & Timothy Leary
Two of the leaders of the psychedelic movement are the subject of Gay Dillingham's doc, which is narrated by Robert Redford. Leary and Ram Dass (nee Richard Alpert) met as professors at Harvard in the early '60s and eventually sparked the LSD revolution that stoked the burgeoning counterculture. The title indicates the movie is about passing, which Leary did in 1996 at 76. Ram Dass, who changed his name after traveling to India, is still alive at 86 and managing after a 1997 stroke. Fans of Ram Dass should also check out Mickey Lemle's Fierce Grace (2002).
