Documentaries
One of two movies on this list that focuses on the Amazon and ayahuasca (Icaros: A Vision is the other), Raz Degan's doc features James Freeman, an American suffering from depression and ennui who decides that the jungle hallucinogen might be the cure for him. He begins in Iquitos, Peru, the Western mouth of the Amazon. Healers and potions are everywhere, so it takes Freeman several tries to find one reputable shaman (Pepe). The area is known for ayahuasca tourism and, according to Pepe, "little by little the essence of the plants is being lost." But it's good that Degan takes us there.
