Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese
From 1975-1976, Bob Dylan toured with a large ensemble of musicians and friends. They played small venues and had a rag-tag appeal. The mercurial singer, often covered with white face makeup and wearing flamboyant hats and scarves, led the contingent that included Joan Baez, Roger McGuinn, Joni Mitchell and Ramblin’ Jack Elliot. The film captures the loose party atmosphere (though no joints are smoked) and convivial communal scene around the tour that made 46 total stops. It’s documented on vinyl and CD, by Larry “Ratso” Sloman and Kinky Friedman in their 1978 book, On the Road with Bob Dylan, and now by Martin Scorsese, who directed The Last Waltz. For him, Dylan is the original rock & roll gangster. Netflix
