This second remake of Shaft, by Tim Story – the 1971 original starred Richard Roundtree and the 2000 sequel replaced him with Samuel L. Jackson in the super-hero role – introduces Jesse T. Usher as Shaft’s grandson, who works for the FBI. After a friend of his is killed, he asks his father to help him solve the crime. The constant banter between millennial Shaft and old-school Shaft provides comic relief as the duo zero in on a drug kingpen who’s running heroin from Afghanistan under the guise of a program’s that meant to get veterans off drugs.
