Snoop Dogg plays a former star NFL wide receiver who's fallen on hard times and becomes the blunt-smoking coach of a foul-mouthed peewee football team in Charles Stone III's R-rated stoner comedy, "The Underdoggs." It's now streaming at Prime Video.
Much has been made of the prosthetic nose Bradley Cooper wears in "Maestro" (now streaming on Netflix) to look more like his Jewish subject, Leonard Bernstein. It's a big one, kind of pudgy, excellent apparently to snort cocaine with, which Lenny does at a party in this exasperating biopic.
Cocaine made a comeback in 2023 movies headed by a wacky one about a buzzed bear. There was plenty of weed in this year's crop of stoner films as well.
The latest stab at telling the nation's opioids story is not about Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family. David Yates' "Pain Hustlers," starring Emily Blunt, instead focuses on Insys and its Fentanyl drug Subsys.
Nicole Holofcener's "You Hurt My Feelings" can't be more topical. The lead character's son works at an unlicensed pot shop in Manhattan. His mom is played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
