Three years since Anthony Bourdain's death, a new documentary provides a greater understanding of what made the chef, author and host of No Reservations and Parts Unknown tick and perhaps gets closer to explaining why Bourdain took his own life in a hotel room in France on June 18, 2018.
Directed by Morgan Neville, Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain, will be released in theaters on July 16.
"Here's a little truth telling," Bourdain says in the trailer above. "There's no happy ending."
In another quote, he marvels:
"One minute I was standing next to a deep fryer, the next I was watching the sunset over the Sahara. What am I doing here?"
In an voiceover, Bourdain notes: "You are successful and I am successful. But are you happy?"
He continues: "Travel isn't always pretty. You go away. You learn. You get scarred, marked, changed in the process."
